Facebook introduced a feature like TikTok on Instagram. This feature, called ‘Reels’, is currently released in 50 countries, including the United States. The feature comes when Facebook’s rival Microsoft has hinted to buy TikTok’s US operations and the two companies are expected to reach an agreement by September 15.
According to Reuters, TikTok‘s owner, ByteDance, which has many difficult questions about sharing data with US users, has agreed to sell TikTak’s operations in various countries.
According to experts, the release of the ‘Reels’ feature by Facebook will increase the competition between Facebook and TikTok, both companies want to attract young American consumers.
TikTok has more than one billion users worldwide, of which more than 800 million users use it regularly.
In the US market, more than 80 million users use TikTak continuously.
According to Reuters, ‘Reels’ was first tested in Brazil in 2018. It has since been tested in France, Germany and India, the largest TikTok markets after China. India has imposed a TikTok ban following border tensions with China last month.
Like TikTok, Reels users can create vertical videos on their mobile phones in which they can add custom special effects and songs from the music library. Instagram is not yet offering users the ability to advertise or make money on Reels.
