Dubai Municipality has launched the “Smart Municipality Eye” initiative, an advanced aerial monitoring system powered by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with artificial intelligence. The project introduces mobile and intelligent oversight of Dubai’s extensive green spaces, designed to assess plant health, generate real-time reports, and forecast potential issues before they arise.
Through this initiative, drones will conduct aerial and field mapping across 52 million square metres of green areas throughout the emirate. The system analyses vegetation health, identifies irrigation inefficiencies, detects pest-related problems, and processes large volumes of data to support predictive maintenance. By providing early warnings and accurate insights, the technology enables timely interventions and supports the long-term sustainability and resilience of Dubai’s green infrastructure.
To further advance this initiative, Dubai Municipality has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Eanan Al Samma for Remote-Controlled Aircraft Manufacturing. The agreement promotes collaboration in developing and deploying cutting-edge drone technologies and advanced analytical systems for municipal, inspection, and field operations. This partnership aligns with Dubai’s environmental and urban sustainability goals, reflecting the city’s ongoing efforts to adopt smart solutions for efficient resource management.
The MoU was signed by His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and His Excellency Rashid Hamdan bin Khadim Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Eanan Al Samma, during Urban Future Week. The event, held at the Museum of the Future on 10–11 November in partnership with Dubai Municipality, gathered global experts and decision-makers to explore innovative urban planning solutions and discuss how cities can prepare for emerging environmental and technological challenges.
His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita said the collaboration represents an advanced step in positioning Dubai Municipality as a leader in using artificial intelligence and drone technologies to manage municipal operations. “We are not merely planting trees; we are designing and preserving Dubai’s environmental and visual identity with precision. These technologies provide new capabilities to sustain and maintain our urban assets, contributing daily to making Dubai a more beautiful, sustainable, and liveable city,” he stated.
His Excellency Rashid Hamdan bin Khadim Al Nuaimi expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that it supports Dubai’s vision of integrating innovation into government services. “This agreement reflects our shared commitment to developing advanced technological projects and intelligent systems that enhance operational efficiency and improve quality of life,” he said.
Under the MoU, both parties will exchange technical expertise, co-develop innovative solutions, and pilot advanced operational models to support Dubai Municipality’s goals of flexible and efficient service delivery. The partnership reinforces sustainability efforts, optimises resource management, and strengthens Dubai’s position as a global model for smart, liveable cities.
