Global logistics giant DP World has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PayPal to develop a digital payments solution designed to speed up and simplify cross-border trade transactions.
The partnership is part of DP World’s wider Digital Payments programme, an initiative aimed at enhancing the efficiency and transparency of international commerce. By integrating PayPal’s payment infrastructure with DP World’s global logistics network, the two companies plan to create a system that significantly reduces settlement times—from several days to just minutes.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, said the collaboration reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to transform global supply chains through technology. “In logistics, speed and transparency mean everything, and payments linked to logistics are no different,” he said. “Our collaboration with PayPal is part of our Digital Payments initiative, which aims to provide reliable options for cross-border payments that are faster and more transparent than traditional systems, without compromising on security.”
He added that the new solution would enable merchants, marketplaces, exporters, and importers to manage international payments more efficiently. “By simplifying global transactions, we are empowering businesses of every size to grow and operate more effectively across markets,” he said.
PayPal President and CEO Alex Chriss emphasized the importance of modernizing global payments systems to support trade. “Global trade works best when payments are fast, transparent, and secure. That is exactly what this partnership with DP World is delivering,” he said. “For too long, global businesses have been underserved by traditional cross-border payment systems. Today, we are setting a new standard.”
Chriss added that the collaboration marks a significant step toward creating more inclusive financial services. “I am proud to mark this milestone in a region that is fast becoming a global hub for digital innovation,” he said.
DP World noted that the partnership combines its expertise in global logistics and trade with PayPal’s leadership in digital payments to reduce friction and costs in international commerce. The company’s Digital Payments programme also incorporates emerging technologies such as distributed ledger systems and stablecoin-based solutions, developed through licensed payment partners and aligned with regulatory frameworks.
The initiative underscores DP World’s strategy to integrate advanced digital solutions into global trade networks, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leading hub for innovation in logistics and financial technology.
