Apple is preparing a phased release for its next-generation smartphones, with the iPhone 18 lineup expected to debut across two separate launch windows in 2026 and 2027, according to multiple technology reports.
The company is expected to introduce its premium devices in September 2026, while the standard and budget models will arrive several months later in early 2027. The staggered schedule marks a departure from Apple’s typical single-event launches and signals a stronger focus on high-end models and new product concepts.
Reports indicate that the premium range will include the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, the iPhone 18 Air and a foldable model tentatively called the iPhone 18 Fold. These devices are expected to headline Apple’s fall 2026 event.
Technology site MacRumors reported that the delayed models will include the base iPhone 18 and the more affordable iPhone 18e, both scheduled for release in early 2027.
Industry observers say the split launch allows Apple to focus on refining its premium lineup and introducing new hardware features before bringing the redesigned standard models to market.
According to a report by Financial Express, the standard models could feature a punch-hole front camera, replacing the notch or the Dynamic Island design used in recent iPhones. The devices may also include under-display Face ID technology, a feature that has been rumored for several years.
The report also said the standard models will likely run on Apple’s upcoming A20 chipset, which is expected to offer faster processing, improved battery efficiency and enhanced connectivity.
Meanwhile, the premium models launching in 2026 may keep much of the design language seen in the previous generation. NDTV Profit reported that Apple may reuse manufacturing molds from the iPhone 17 Pro lineup, meaning the Dynamic Island feature could remain largely unchanged.
Some earlier rumors suggested Apple might introduce a hole-punch camera design and move Face ID components under the display in the Pro models. However, recent leaks indicate these design changes could be postponed until the next generation, possibly the iPhone 19 Pro.
Despite limited design changes, the Pro models are expected to include major internal upgrades. Technology leak accounts such as Ice Universe and Digital Chat Station say the devices will feature the A20 Pro chip built on a 2-nanometre process, which could significantly improve speed and energy efficiency.
Reports also suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max may be slightly thicker than its predecessor to accommodate a larger battery exceeding 5,000mAh.
Camera improvements are also expected. The Pro models may feature a triple-camera system with variable aperture settings to enhance low-light photography and provide greater flexibility for users.
According to GSMArena, speculation that the Dynamic Island would shrink significantly has also cooled. The feature is now expected to remain similar to the one used in the iPhone 17 Pro series.
The new strategy reflects Apple’s effort to highlight its premium devices while giving more time to develop design changes planned for future models. The phased rollout also introduces the company’s first foldable iPhone, which could mark one of the biggest hardware shifts in the iPhone lineup in years.
