Abu Dhabi is positioning itself as a global leader in sports and entertainment innovation with the launch of E1H, a groundbreaking initiative by Ethara and OneToWatch. The new hub, based at Yas Marina Circuit, aims to support startups from ideation to commercialization, offering mentorship, investment opportunities, and access to industry networks in sectors such as esports, fan engagement, sustainability, and digital experiences.

Guillaume Dufond, Executive Director of Strategic Development at Ethara, and Jamie Cunningham, Executive Director at OneToWatch, shared insights into how E1H plans to shape the future of sports and entertainment in the UAE and beyond.

A Hub for Innovation and Growth

Jamie Cunningham explained that E1H was created to stimulate the sports and entertainment economy by supporting entrepreneurs and fostering innovative businesses. “We’re here to connect entrepreneurs and investors to drive meaningful growth in the industry,” Cunningham said. The hub offers a six-week Incubator program, featuring mentorship, workshops, and access to industry experts, culminating in a pitch to investors. A longer 52-week Xcelerator program for established businesses will be announced soon.

Cunningham emphasized that E1H is open to startups across all sectors of sports and entertainment, with a focus on innovation. Key areas include content creation, experiential events, esports, health and wellness, sustainability, and technology. “We’re looking for founders with fresh ideas ready to shape the future of the industry,” he added.

Mentorship and Investment Opportunities

Entrepreneurs joining E1H will benefit from personalized mentorship, weekly workshops, and access to a network of corporate and government partners. “Each member will be paired with a mentor to help refine and grow their business,” Cunningham said. At the end of the Incubator program, startups will pitch their ideas to local and international investors, providing a pathway to commercialization.

Why Abu Dhabi?

Guillaume Dufond highlighted the UAE’s unique advantages as a hub for entrepreneurial growth in sports and entertainment. “The UAE and the wider MENA region offer a dynamic environment for startups, with global events and a strong focus on community participation,” he said. International entrepreneurs will gain access to local experts, investors, and industry contacts, helping them grow their businesses in the region.

Dufond pointed to the success of events like the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and sold-out Coldplay concerts as evidence of the region’s growing demand for innovative solutions in fan engagement, venue technology, and sustainability. “These events show the UAE’s ability to blend global appeal with local execution,” he said.

Long-Term Impact

E1H aims to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for sports and entertainment by nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs. “In the long term, E1H will reinforce the UAE’s reputation as a center of innovation, attracting talent from around the world,” Dufond said. The hub’s focus on sustainability, fan experience, and technology aligns with the industry’s evolving trends, ensuring that Abu Dhabi remains at the forefront of global sports and entertainment.

What’s Next for E1H?

Following its initial launch, E1H will soon announce its Xcelerator program, designed for established businesses looking to establish a regional or global presence in Abu Dhabi. Applications for the Incubator program are open until February 21, with the program set to begin on April 28. In June, E1H will host its first investment forum, bringing together partners and officially launching the Xcelerator initiative.

With its innovative approach and commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, E1H is poised to make a lasting impact on Abu Dhabi’s sports and entertainment ecosystem, driving growth and innovation for years to come.
