Liverpool surged four points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a commanding 6-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, while Manchester United suffered a humiliating 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth yesterday, capping a dramatic day in English football. Mohamed Salah delivered a stellar performance in Liverpool’s emphatic win in north London, scoring twice and assisting two goals. His brace elevated him to fourth on Liverpool’s all-time scoring chart with 229 goals, surpassing Billy Liddell. Only Ian Rush (346), Roger Hunt (285), and Gordon Hodgson (241) remain ahead of the Egyptian star. Under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool’s relentless form has seen them win 21 of their 25 matches across all competitions. They now hold a game in hand over Chelsea, further solidifying their position in the title race. Goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai put Liverpool in control before Salah’s brilliance took center stage. Diaz added a second goal to cap the scoring spree. Tottenham’s high defensive line proved disastrous, conceding six goals at home for the first time since 1997. Despite goals from James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke, Spurs slumped to their eighth league defeat, leaving them in 11th place and intensifying pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou. Meanwhile, Manchester United endured another dismal outing under manager Ruben Amorim, losing to Bournemouth at Old Trafford. United, now languishing in 13th place, have recorded four defeats in nine matches since Amorim’s appointment in November. The defeat follows their League Cup exit against Tottenham, further compounding their struggles. Bournemouth opened the scoring in the 29th minute as 18-year-old defender Dean Huijsen capitalized on United’s poor set-piece marking. Justin Kluivert doubled the visitors’ lead with a 61st-minute penalty, and Antoine Semenyo sealed the win moments later with a composed finish. Amorim’s decision to omit Marcus Rashford for the third consecutive game has drawn criticism, with the England forward hinting at a desire for a “new challenge.” United were jeered off the pitch by frustrated fans, signaling growing unrest at the club. Elsewhere, Chelsea missed an opportunity to top the table temporarily after a goalless draw at Everton ended their five-match league winning streak. Wolves, under new boss Vitor Pereira, enjoyed a dream start with a 3-0 victory over relegation rivals Leicester. Goals from Goncalo Guedes, Rodrigo Gomes, and Matheus Cunha brought Wolves within two points of safety. Southampton, rooted at the bottom, held Fulham to a 0-0 draw, with new manager Ivan Juric watching from the stands. The day’s results leave Liverpool firmly in control of the title race, while Manchester United faces growing uncertainty.
