The UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation will launch its 2026 season with the UAE National MMA Championship 1, scheduled for January 10-11 at the UAE University in Al-Ain. The championship marks the first major event of the year and is expected to feature hundreds of athletes across multiple age categories.
The competition will include divisions ranging from Youth D (10–11 years) to Youth A (16–17 years), as well as an adult category for competitors aged 18 and above. Organizers said the event aims to provide opportunities for athletes at every stage of development, while also highlighting the growth and professionalism of mixed martial arts in the UAE.
Mohammed Bin Dalmouj Al-Dhaheri, a board member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, described the championship as a cornerstone of the Federation’s strategy to cultivate talent and nurture future champions. “We want the first championship of the new season to be a strong platform that reflects our strategy, especially in identifying talent, developing athletes, and building future champions,” he said.
He added that the championship serves as the first step in a wider plan to advance mixed martial arts throughout 2026. “The strong preparation by clubs and academies shows how much mixed martial arts has grown in the UAE. Teams now take part with clear training plans and ongoing development programs,” Al-Dhaheri said.
According to the Federation, the higher quality of competition reflects not only the dedication of athletes but also the diversity of fighting styles now represented in the country. Clubs and academies have invested in structured training and technical development, raising the overall standard of performance and enhancing the championship’s role in talent identification.
The UAE has seen growing interest in mixed martial arts in recent years, with the Federation emphasizing the development of both technical skills and mental preparedness for athletes. Events such as the National MMA Championship provide a platform for young and adult competitors to gain experience, showcase their abilities, and prepare for international competitions.
Officials also highlighted that the championship aligns with the UAE’s broader goals of promoting sports participation, supporting local talent, and positioning the country as a regional hub for mixed martial arts. With the opening event set to bring together a wide range of athletes and teams, organizers expect intense competition and a showcase of the country’s rising MMA standards.
The UAE National MMA Championship 1 will run over two days, with matches taking place across multiple weight classes and age divisions. Organizers expect the event to draw attention from fans, coaches, and sports enthusiasts, reinforcing the UAE’s growing reputation in combat sports.
