The Qatar Airways Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix has earned high praise for its exceptional safety standards and seamless organization, according to Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA). Speaking on Sunday during the final day of the 2024 edition, Ben Sulayem commended Qatar’s ability to deliver a world-class event that stands out in the Formula 1 World Championship calendar.

Reflecting on both the 2023 and 2024 editions, Ben Sulayem highlighted Qatar’s meticulous approach to hosting, noting the outstanding facilities at the Lusail International Circuit and the smooth logistical experience for fans and officials.

“The organization here is exemplary, with attention to even the smallest details, from paddock facilities to spectator access,” he said. “This is in stark contrast to some major circuits in Europe, where logistical challenges can often overshadow the event’s success.”

The FIA President emphasized that the Grand Prix’s success is a result of Qatar’s well-thought-out planning, which extends beyond motorsports, as demonstrated during events like the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He noted that Qatar’s consistent organizational excellence reinforces its reputation as a top-tier destination for global sporting events.

Ben Sulayem also underscored the fruitful collaboration between the FIA and Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) in advancing motorsports. In particular, he praised QMMF President Abdulrahman Al Mannai’s efforts to nurture young talent through karting academies. These academies serve as a training ground for aspiring Formula 1 drivers and are attracting growing interest among Arab youth.

“Investing in grassroots motorsport is vital, and Qatar’s focus on karting is a key step toward producing future champions,” Ben Sulayem said.

The FIA is currently engaged in 70 safety projects worldwide, with a budget of €2.8 million dedicated to improving motorsport safety, including operational and medical safety in World Championship events. An additional €1.9 million has been allocated for technical regulations, track safety, and equipment enhancements, further solidifying the FIA’s commitment to the sport’s evolution.

Ben Sulayem revealed that the federation has invested over €10 million in motorsports development across 85 countries, with karting academies playing a crucial role in this effort.

As the curtains close on another successful Qatar Grand Prix, Ben Sulayem’s remarks underscore the event’s importance in setting benchmarks for safety, innovation, and fan engagement in Formula 1. With its robust organizational prowess and long-term vision, Qatar continues to solidify its position as a premier motorsport hub on the global stage.
