The Mid East Falcons booked their place in the United Series after an 8–2 win over the Arabia Wolves at Baseball United Ballpark on Saturday, sealing a top-two finish in the league’s inaugural season.
The Falcons’ offense came alive in the second game of the doubleheader, led by Jake Hjelle, who went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. His performance set the tone for a decisive victory that ensured the Abu Dhabi-based franchise will face the Mumbai Cobras in the championship series beginning December 12.
Kazuki Yabuta delivered a strong outing on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing only two hits and two runs. Though he issued six walks, he kept the Wolves’ lineup largely under control and recorded one strikeout on his way to earning the win. Relievers Kodai Hamaya and Severino Gonzalez closed out the game, with Gonzalez tossing a scoreless final inning.
The Falcons’ batting order showed depth across the lineup. Hiroyuki Nakajima went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs, keeping pressure on the Wolves’ pitching staff. Gregori Cano added an RBI with a 1-for-2 performance, while Alejandro de Aza contributed two runs and one RBI after also going 1-for-2 at the plate. Their combined output helped the Falcons build a comfortable lead early and maintain momentum throughout.
For the Wolves, Jacinto Cipriota stood out, going 1-for-3 with the team’s lone RBI. The Wolves struggled to contain the Falcons’ bats across the doubleheader, conceding 17 runs on the day while scoring only seven in response.
Akeem Bostick took the loss for the Wolves after 2.1 innings of work. He gave up one hit and three earned runs, along with one walk, before being pulled. The defeat dropped Arabia to a 4-4 record, leaving the team hoping to finish the regular season above .500 when they return to the field on Sunday.
With the result, the Falcons now turn their attention to the upcoming United Series, a best-of-three showdown that will determine the first-ever Baseball United champion. The series will be played entirely at Baseball United Ballpark, where the Falcons will look to build on their strong finish to the regular season.
The matchup against the Mumbai Cobras promises to be one of the season’s marquee contests, as both teams aim to cap the league’s debut year with the title.
