Dubai Basketball secured a 96-85 victory over LDLC ASVEL in their EuroLeague Round 29 game on Thursday, marking the club’s first match of Ramadan with a meaningful gesture for the community. In celebration of the win, the team pledged 3,055 meals to families in need across the UAE through their “Basket for Basket” initiative.
Under the program, every point scored by Dubai Basketball translated into a donated meal, while each ticket purchased added to the total. By the final buzzer, the 3,055 meals had been secured in partnership with the UAE Food Bank, set to be distributed throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Head Coach Jurica Golemac praised the team’s effort on the court and the impact of the initiative. “Thank you to the fans. It wasn’t an easy game to play, but we approached it with the right level of seriousness,” Golemac said. “We stayed disciplined, extended our lead step by step, defended well, and maintained our focus. I’m also very happy to say that during the holy month of Ramadan, we were able to donate more than 3,000 meals tonight.”
Co-CEO Dejan Kamenjasevic highlighted the broader significance of combining sport with social responsibility. “To open this month with a win is special, but to do it while supporting thousands of families across the UAE is what truly matters,” Kamenjasevic said. “Basketball brought everyone together tonight—our players, our fans, our partners. Together we created something meaningful. This is exactly what Dubai Basketball stands for: competing at the highest level, proudly representing this city while never losing sight of our responsibility to the community.”
On the court, Dubai Basketball delivered a strong collective performance at their home arena. Mfiondu Kabengele led the scoring early, establishing momentum with a dominant display, while Dwayne Bacon and McKinley Wright contributed balance and control, helping the team maintain their lead and secure the victory.
The game showcased both skill and teamwork, with Dubai Basketball’s players combining offensive efficiency and defensive focus to overcome a determined ASVEL side. The win not only adds to the team’s EuroLeague campaign but also provided fans with a memorable start to Ramadan, demonstrating how sports can bring communities together while supporting charitable causes.
The “Basket for Basket” initiative reflects the club’s commitment to using sport as a platform for social good. With thousands of meals earmarked for distribution, Dubai Basketball is aiming to positively impact families across the UAE during one of the most important periods of the year, combining athletic achievement with tangible support for those in need.
