Arsenal defender William Saliba has committed his future to the club by signing a new five-year contract that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2030. The French center-back’s previous deal was due to expire in 2027, but the extension underlines both his importance to the team and the club’s long-term plans.
The 24-year-old had been linked with a possible move to Real Madrid earlier this year, but speculation has now been put to rest as Saliba reaffirmed his commitment to Arsenal. Since breaking into the first team during the 2022/23 campaign, he has become a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s defense, anchoring a side that has finished as Premier League runners-up in each of the past three seasons.
Saliba, who joined Arsenal in 2019 from Saint-Étienne, endured a series of loan spells in France before establishing himself in North London. His development since then has made him one of the most highly regarded defenders in the Premier League, with his composure on the ball and defensive awareness earning praise from teammates, coaches, and fans alike.
Speaking after the announcement, Saliba said he felt deeply connected to the club and its supporters. “I feel at home. We have a good team, we have a good squad, we have good staff. The coach is perfect for me, so it’s the best place to be,” he said. “I enjoy every day when I have the chance to wear this shirt. I try to give everything, and now I’ll give even more to this club and to the fans.”
Manager Mikel Arteta also welcomed the news, describing Saliba as an integral part of the squad both on and off the pitch. “William is loved by all the players and staff, and that speaks volumes about his character, commitment and attitude every day,” Arteta said. “Since joining us, William has grown so much, embraced responsibility, and has created a strong connection with our supporters and everyone at the club.”
Saliba’s new deal is seen as a major boost for Arsenal as they continue their push to end a two-decade wait for a Premier League title. The Gunners are currently second in the table, two points behind leaders Liverpool after six matches of the new season.
With the defender now tied to the club for the next six years, Arsenal’s hierarchy hopes his presence will provide stability at the back as they challenge on multiple fronts, including domestic and European competitions.
