When you retire to your bedroom, you definitely want to relax the body and brain. However, there are instances when getting good quality sleep becomes a problem. During such times, you spend an entire night rolling on the bed instead of sleeping. The lack of sleep is usually caused by noise from within the house and as well as from outside. When your sleep is often disrupted by noise, you must do something to counter the noise. This is because fatigue due to lack of sleep can cause your performance during the day to dwindle. Fatigue can actually be dangerous if you operate a machine or drive a car. Here is a list of common sources of noise in the bedroom and what you can do to keep them at bay.

Sources of Noise in a Bedroom

  1. Snoring Partner

Sharing a bedroom with a snoring partner can be irritating. The bad thing is that such people are usually unaware of the distraction they cause to their partners’ sleep. Since moving to a different bedroom can affect your bondage negatively, it’s important you look for a solution that will create a win-win solution for both of you. For a start, you should encourage your partner to try sleeping on their side. This is known to help in reducing instances of snoring when they sleep. Besides that, if your spouse is overweight, you should support him or her in joining a wellness program with the intention of losing weight. You can even put up a home gym in the garage or the backyard. The last option is to invest in anti-snoring gear. The gear is usually worn when going to bed.

  1. Noisy Appliances

Some of the appliances that we use on a daily basis can produce noise that ends up interrupting our sleep. Some of these appliances include electric cookers, fridges, dehumidifiers, heaters and laundry machines. The noise is usually caused by the rotating motors that are inside their compartments. If either of these appliances is close to the bedroom, it’s advisable you move it to a location that’s further from where you sleep. This will help in reducing the noise that’s generated by household appliances because it will have to go through several walls before it reaches your bedroom. Besides that, it’s also recommended you place every individual appliance on top of a rubber mat. The mat absorbs the vibrations that are produced by the motors. In addition to that, you should only pick appliances that guarantee a smooth operation when buying electrical appliances.

  1. Noisy Air Vents

Just like their name suggests, air vents allow fresh air from outside to circulate inside the house. The air vents are usually connected to a powerful fan. Sometimes these fans generate a lot of noise. If you have noisy air vent in bedroom, it’s advisable you soundproof the openings with noise resistant materials. When you install the noise buffers, you can be sure you will be able to sleep like a baby throughout the night. The good thing is that the materials come with instructions on how to install them in the walls of the air vents. If you don’t have the time or you just don’t want to get your hands dirty, you can also hire a technician to do the job for you.

  1. Loud Stereos

If you live close to neighbors that pump up the volume of their stereos at night, you can experience difficulty in sleeping. Dealing with such noise is a bit complicated because it’s made by stereo systems that are not inside your house. For a start, you should consider alerting your neighbors about the distraction they cause to your sleep so that they can reduce the volume on their systems. Besides that, you should consider soundproofing the walls so that they are able to deflect external noise. And that’s not all. You should also consider shifting the window of your bedroom from the side that the noise comes from.
