Since, Pakistan is the most populated country and most of the population lives in interior parts of the provinces like Sindh, KPK, and Punjab below the poverty line and have on average 7 to 8 kids per family. As per united nations statistics in the year 2021 population growth rate is 1.95% which is slower than last comparative years when it was 2% in 2019, 2.04% in 2018, and 2.08% in 2017. But still is more than those countries where population growth rate is slow, the problem with this rise in population is most of the families who live below the poverty line or in slum areas lack awareness about population control and resulting sell their kids to families in against of a price. These kids are sent as child labor which is a “crime” but somehow no one is speaking on this or notice this.
Such kids are sent to privileged or settle families in against of annual price and rest all expenses of educating and raising kids is on families taking them, sometimes there are some good families they raise such kids like their own kids without any differentiation or discrimination and sometimes families have other maids or housekeeping staff and such kids are mixed with these staff so there are high chances of they face “sexual abuse”, “adopt bad activities” and get into other harmful situations.
There are laws related to child labor that clearly states “minimum age” of work for a minor, but implementation is not there, and the law is silent on this diaspora. Secondly, the issues are faced in “child adoption” by parents who want to adopt orphan kids or newborn babies, their parents or orphanage house blackmail rich families and give kids in against of double money than agreed. My question, “is it real adoption?” to which Holly prophet (PBUH) said, “Anyone who raises an orphan kid will be standing next to me on a day of judgment”. There has to be proper check and balance on orphanage and such institutions that send kids for adoption to those families who are “kids deprived” and actually really desperate to adopt them. Also, such families facing this challenge shouldn’t go for adoption from these greedy families.
In the above two dilemmas, there is one thing common which is “money”, underprivileged families need money so desperately that they are selling their kids and orphanage houses are targeting rich and privileged families and blackmailing them by playing on the deep desire to have kids. At the government level, there has to be proper investigation of orphan houses and also public should cooperate with the government to reduce child labor. Rather, of sending kids as labor, give them to caretaker families where they are treating them equally as their own kids and send them to good educational institutions rather than just treating them as labor.
