Anyone who hasn’t had a good night’s rest will have huge circles and dark bags under the eyes. If you aren’t able to sleep well, it will show in your face and demeanour. It is easy to feel cranky, tired, and unmotivated when you lack some Zs. A lot of health issues are also linked with insufficient sleep.
Night is the time when your body recharges its cells and heals itself. If you are unable to do so, it brings down your immune system. Sleep deprivation will also affect your metabolic rate, along with the function of your entire organ system.
As such, investing in luxury duvet covers and linens is not vanity but a necessity. They are worth it because they feel good next to your skin, promote air circulation, and pave the way for quality sleep. Once you’ve tried them, you will never revert to the cheap synthetic materials ever again.
But after buying such pretty covers that reflect your personality and elevate the design of your room, you must do everything in your power to assure longevity. Here’s how to care for your luxury linens and covers so that you may extend their life and enjoy them for many more years to come:
Read the Care Instructions
For best results, don’t forget to read the care instructions that come with your purchase. The manufacturer will have suggestions based on the materials of your bed linens.
Typically, you can successfully wash most materials at home with your washing machine. But for cashmere throws, you may need to hand wash them or have them professionally dry cleaned.
Use a Mild Detergent
It is important to utilize a very mild detergent for your luxury duvet covers. Unlike regular ones, mild soaps do not contain bleach or other harmful chemicals like chlorine or peroxide. These elements can affect the natural fibres of your covers and cause discolouration.
Refrain From Putting Detergent Directly
Do not put the detergent directly on the material. You must dilute it first as your machine fills with water and make sure it is incorporated well before putting in your linen.
Keep in mind that very delicate linens only need half the amount of detergent. You won’t need a lot of chemicals to keep them clean because they don’t get as spoiled as the clothes you wear outside.
Avoid Using Fabric Softeners
For best results, refrain from using fabric softeners on luxury linens. Though they would make your linens appear very soft to the touch, these softeners will coat each fibre strand and cause damage over time. It is normal for luxury bedding to soften naturally with your frequent use and wash.
Pay Attention to Machine Settings
Make sure your washing machine is set to a gentle or delicate cycle to prevent agitating the materials excessively. Never use hot water as these may cause the various colours to bleed onto each other.
Wash Them Separately
Do not wash your linens with other materials like towels or clothes. The former will cause lint and the latter snags due to zippers and buttons. Avoid overloading your washer! When you pack too many bedding inside in one go, this will agitate the materials and cause abrasion against each other, causing the fibres to break down.
Use Tumble Dry
Finally, for best results, drying your linen out in the warm sun is recommended. However, you can also use the tumble dry or air setting in your dryer. Excess heat will damage the fabric and cause shrinking and discolouration.
You may want to remove the linens while they are slightly damp, so you can smooth out the wrinkles and air dry for a bit before folding. If you truly want to take out the wrinkles, you may iron the reverse side in low heat to ensure your luxury bedding remains crisp and is free of creases.
