Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Justice, Walid Al-Samaani, held talks with his Qatari counterpart, Ibrahim Al-Mohannadi, to discuss strengthening judicial and legal cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The high-level meeting took place during Al-Samaani’s official visit to Qatar, as both countries explore new avenues to enhance collaboration in legal and judicial areas.
Minister Al-Samaani outlined the latest advancements within Saudi Arabia’s judicial system, emphasizing that these improvements are part of a broader modernization initiative led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and guided by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. He explained that these efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to advancing its judicial infrastructure, ensuring efficient legal services and upholding the rule of law as part of the country’s Vision 2030 objectives.
The discussions with Qatari Minister Al-Mohannadi aimed at identifying specific areas where both nations could share expertise, streamline judicial processes, and improve legal services for citizens and residents alike. Both ministers acknowledged the importance of mutual cooperation in enhancing the effectiveness of the justice systems in their respective countries, particularly in areas such as digital transformation, legal training, and sharing judicial best practices.
Minister Al-Samaani noted that the Saudi judiciary has recently undergone substantial reforms, which have introduced digitization and improved judicial efficiency across various sectors. The Ministry of Justice in Saudi Arabia has launched several digital initiatives, such as electronic case management, virtual court hearings, and advanced data systems to increase transparency and accessibility in legal proceedings. Al-Samaani highlighted these achievements as examples of Saudi Arabia’s dedication to establishing a more modern, accessible, and transparent legal system.
Qatari Minister of Justice Al-Mohannadi welcomed the cooperation, expressing Qatar’s readiness to enhance its judicial collaboration with Saudi Arabia. He acknowledged the rapid advancements in the Saudi judicial system and recognized the mutual benefits that sharing expertise and resources would bring to both countries. Qatar, too, has been making strides in modernizing its legal sector, and both ministers discussed areas where they could benefit from exchanging knowledge and technical expertise.
This meeting between the justice ministers reflects a growing trend of collaboration across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, as they work together to develop resilient judicial systems and promote legal cooperation across borders. The increased collaboration also aligns with broader efforts within the GCC to bolster regional stability and harmonize legal frameworks to support economic and social development.
The visit of Minister Al-Samaani to Qatar signifies a commitment to a long-term partnership in judicial matters between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This collaboration promises to strengthen the rule of law, support regional integration, and create a foundation for ongoing cooperation in the legal sector.
