The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) marked a major milestone in its ongoing commitment to global education infrastructure with the inauguration of the second phase of the Jakarta State University development project.
SFD CEO Sultan Al-Marshad led the ceremony on Wednesday, celebrating the start of the $32.7 million initiative that aims to significantly expand and modernize the university’s facilities. The project includes the construction of four 10-storey academic buildings, a grand mosque, and a dedicated social development center.
The event was attended by several senior dignitaries, including Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto and Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Amoudi.
In a statement posted on the SFD’s official X account, the fund highlighted its role in supporting sustainable development and strengthening ties between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia through key social and educational projects.
“This initiative reflects our ongoing efforts to support development in partner countries, particularly in sectors that build human capital and promote long-term economic and social progress,” the Fund noted.
The Jakarta State University project is designed to accommodate growing student numbers and support academic excellence in one of Indonesia’s leading higher education institutions. The inclusion of a mosque and social development center underscores the project’s emphasis on community engagement and cultural enrichment, beyond just academic infrastructure.
The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to promote international development through investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, particularly in developing countries across Asia and Africa.
This marks another significant step in the deepening bilateral cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, particularly in the fields of education, culture, and sustainable development.
