Saudi Arabia Welcomes US-Brokered Ceasefire Between India and Pakistan, Urges Peaceful Resolution

Saudi Arabia on Saturday welcomed the US-mediated ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, expressing hope that the move would mark a turning point towards restoring peace and stability in South Asia.

In a statement issued through the Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom praised both countries for showing restraint amid rising hostilities and underscored the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means.

“The Kingdom commends the prudence and self-restraint demonstrated by both parties,” the statement read, adding that Saudi Arabia supports diplomatic efforts that contribute to regional security.

The ceasefire agreement, announced earlier on Saturday, followed a sharp escalation in tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours, which included cross-border fire and the launch of military operations on both sides. The breakthrough came after late-night talks on Friday mediated by the United States, with President Donald Trump confirming Washington’s role in brokering the understanding.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of good neighbourliness and non-interference, calling on both countries to prioritize dialogue to prevent further instability. “Peace and prosperity in South Asia depend on mutual respect and constructive engagement,” the statement added.

Jordan also joined the chorus of international voices welcoming the ceasefire. The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the development as a “vital step” towards reducing tensions in the region. Ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah emphasized the importance of diplomatic solutions and lauded both nations for committing to dialogue over conflict.

“The agreement represents a key opportunity to address long-standing issues in a manner that promotes regional peace,” Qudah said, reiterating Jordan’s support for peaceful initiatives and urging continued restraint from both sides.

The ceasefire comes at a critical time for the region, which has witnessed intermittent skirmishes and deep political mistrust for decades. Observers say the international community’s active engagement—particularly by the United States—was instrumental in pushing both parties toward de-escalation.

While the details of the ceasefire agreement have yet to be made public, the announcement has been welcomed by global leaders and organizations as a promising sign of progress. With both countries expressing willingness to return to the negotiating table, diplomatic efforts are now expected to shift toward ensuring long-term stability in the region.
