RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) announced on Friday the extradition of Abdullah bin Awadh Aidha Al-Harthy, a Saudi national wanted internationally for crimes involving financial and administrative corruption.
An official source stated that the extradition was made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Saudi Arabia, represented by Nazaha, and the Russian Federation, represented by the Prosecutor General’s Office. The agreement underscores both nations’ commitment to combating cross-border corruption and ensuring accountability.
The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office responded to an official request from Saudi authorities to extradite Al-Harthy. This cooperation reflects the shared determination of both countries to uphold the rule of law, deliver justice, and strengthen international efforts to combat corruption while denying safe havens to individuals accused of such crimes.
Nazaha expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the GlobE Network and INTERPOL in tracking and apprehending individuals involved in corruption. These organizations play a crucial role in preventing impunity by facilitating international collaboration and information sharing among law enforcement agencies worldwide.
The anti-corruption authority reiterated its steadfast commitment to pursuing corrupt individuals, both within and beyond Saudi borders. It emphasized its dedication to holding perpetrators accountable under the law and recovering misappropriated assets to return them to the state treasury.
The case marks a significant achievement in Saudi Arabia’s ongoing campaign against corruption, highlighting the country’s efforts to collaborate with international partners to combat financial crimes and promote transparency.
Nazaha’s collaboration with Russia on this matter reflects a growing trend of global partnerships aimed at addressing the challenges of transnational corruption. By leveraging tools such as extradition agreements and international law enforcement networks, Saudi Arabia seeks to ensure that those who commit corruption are brought to justice, regardless of where they are located.
The extradition also sends a strong message to those engaged in financial and administrative misconduct that there will be no impunity. Saudi Arabia continues to bolster its efforts to combat corruption as part of its broader reforms, aiming to foster accountability and integrity across all sectors.
This latest development reaffirms the Kingdom’s commitment to upholding justice and strengthening mechanisms to deter corruption, ensuring a robust legal framework that aligns with international standards.
