The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has cleared the first medical shipment designated for this year’s Hajj pilgrims, marking a key step in preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage season, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The shipment, weighing 44 tonnes, arrived at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah and contains vital medicines and medical supplies. It is the first of several expected shipments aimed at ensuring the health and well-being of millions of pilgrims traveling to the Kingdom for Hajj.
This effort highlights the SFDA’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the quality and safety of food, medicines, and medical devices entering Saudi Arabia through its air and seaports. The agency has strengthened oversight measures, ensuring that all imported products meet rigorous health standards before reaching pilgrims.
In collaboration with the offices responsible for Hajj affairs, the SFDA has launched awareness campaigns to educate incoming pilgrims and organizers about regulations governing the import of medicines, medical devices, and food items. These initiatives have contributed to greater compliance and smoother processing of goods ahead of the pilgrimage.
SFDA teams are working around the clock at key entry points, including King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah. Their operations are carried out in close coordination with various government agencies and private sector partners to facilitate swift inspection and clearance procedures.
Officials emphasized that ensuring the safety and quality of medical supplies for Hajj pilgrims is a top priority, as the Kingdom gears up to welcome millions of visitors from around the world. This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to provide a safe, healthy, and well-organized environment for one of the world’s largest annual religious gatherings.
