The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has unveiled a series of new health initiatives across Yemen and Djibouti, while also strengthening international cooperation on disease prevention, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
In Yemen, KSrelief signed an agreement on Wednesday with a civil society organization to establish an integrated dialysis center at Al-Jahi Hospital in Daw’an district, Hadhramaut governorate. The new facility will provide life-saving treatment for patients suffering from chronic kidney failure, a condition for which medical services remain scarce in the region. The project is designed to ease the suffering of patients and reinforce Yemen’s fragile healthcare system, which has been under immense strain due to years of conflict.
At the same time, KSrelief extended its medical outreach to Djibouti, where it launched a program to supply the Ministry of Health with essential medicines and equipment. The consignment included treatments for common conditions such as hypertension, fever, and nausea, alongside critical supplies such as endotracheal tubes and arm slings.
Djibouti’s Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Robleh Abdilleh, welcomed the shipment and expressed appreciation to Saudi Arabia for what he described as “generous support and high-quality assistance” in strengthening the country’s health infrastructure.
Beyond regional projects, KSrelief is also expanding its global health partnerships. The center recently hosted Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, at its headquarters in Riyadh. The meeting, led by Dr. Ziyad bin Ahmed Memish, KSrelief’s Senior Advisor for Medical and Humanitarian Research, focused on strategies to curb the spread of infectious diseases and improve epidemic preparedness worldwide.
Sands praised KSrelief’s growing role in global health, highlighting the center’s funding of critical initiatives and its commitment to raising awareness about epidemics that threaten vulnerable communities. He stressed that collaborative efforts between organizations like KSrelief and the Global Fund are vital to achieving lasting progress in the fight against widespread diseases.
The new initiatives underscore KSrelief’s dual commitment to addressing immediate humanitarian needs in conflict-affected and resource-limited countries, while also contributing to broader international health security. Since its establishment, the center has been a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian outreach, implementing programs ranging from food aid and shelter support to health interventions in dozens of countries.
By investing in both local health infrastructure and global partnerships, KSrelief aims to not only save lives today but also build resilience against future health challenges, reinforcing its role as a leading humanitarian actor in the region and beyond.
