Doha, Qatar – Commemorating the founding of Qatar by Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani, Qatar National Day reflects a legacy of unity, sacrifice, and visionary leadership, said HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE the Minister emphasized the importance of the day in fostering loyalty, solidarity, and pride among citizens while celebrating the achievements of a modern, sovereign state rooted in dignity and national pride. Extending congratulations to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the Qatari people, HE the Minister wished for continued prosperity and stability for the nation.

Highlighting Qatar’s steady progress across various sectors, including the economy, health, education, and environmental protection, HE the Minister pointed to the alignment of these advancements with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A significant milestone this year has been Qatar’s progress under the National Action Plan for Climate Change 2030, which sets national climate goals to enhance resilience. Over 35 initiatives have been implemented to reduce carbon emissions, along with 300 adaptation measures to mitigate climate change impacts. Notable achievements include completing the final phase of a factory emission monitoring system and launching green initiatives to enhance quality of life.

HE the Minister also discussed efforts to protect Qatar’s biodiversity, such as projects to breed endangered Houbara bustards, regulate hunting seasons, restore coral reefs, and rehabilitate 38 nurseries under the mainland rehabilitation project. Mangrove forest conservation remains a priority.

In air quality monitoring, Qatar has built a national network with 41 monitoring stations and launched an environmental data platform. The network also includes 60 fixed and 15 mobile devices to monitor radiation levels, ensuring safety standards.

To foster innovation, the Ministry has launched research initiatives in collaboration with leading universities, focusing on environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation. Projects promoting green transportation, clean energy, and industrial cities are underway.

Environmental awareness campaigns targeting youth remain a priority, with efforts to preserve natural resources, rehabilitate ecosystems, and establish new nature reserves. These initiatives complement Qatar’s commitment to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030 through renewable energy, sustainable land use, and low-carbon technologies.

HE the Minister reaffirmed Qatar’s active role in international environmental protection efforts, disaster risk reduction, and climate resilience. “Our mission is to balance sustainable economic development with environmental preservation,” he said, underscoring the ministry’s alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030.

As Qatar celebrates its National Day, these milestones reflect the nation’s dedication to unity, progress, and global environmental leadership.
