– The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) inaugurated the fourth Katara Oud Festival yesterday, bringing together renowned composers and musicians from around the world. The festival, which runs through January 25, celebrates the rich legacy of the Oud and its deep ties to Arab cultural identity.

The event features a diverse lineup of musical performances, interactive workshops, and panel discussions aimed at honoring the Oud as a cornerstone of Arab musical heritage. Katara’s General Manager, Prof. Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, highlighted the festival’s significance in fostering cultural appreciation and global artistic collaboration.

“The Katara Oud Festival has become a landmark event in our cultural calendar, serving as a global forum for music enthusiasts and professionals alike,” said al-Sulaiti. “It’s a platform to celebrate Arab musical heritage while engaging with creativity from around the world.”

This year’s festival pays special tribute to the late Mohammed al-Qasabji, a legendary figure in Arab music whose compositions and innovations have left an enduring legacy. Al-Qasabji’s contributions continue to inspire generations of musicians, and his work is a central theme in the festival’s performances and discussions.

As part of its mission, Katara aims to provide a platform for emerging and established talents in the music world. “We are committed to promoting culture and art in Qatar and the Arab world through events like this,” al-Sulaiti added.

The festival offers a unique opportunity for attendees to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of the Oud. Workshops allow aspiring musicians to learn from masters of the craft, while panel discussions explore the instrument’s historical significance and evolving role in contemporary music.

Visitors can also enjoy a series of concerts featuring both traditional and modern interpretations of Oud music, showcasing the versatility and timeless appeal of this iconic instrument.

The Katara Oud Festival is part of the foundation’s broader efforts to celebrate and preserve Arab cultural heritage while fostering international cultural exchange. It has established itself as a premier event for music lovers, attracting audiences from across Qatar and beyond.

As the fourth edition of the festival continues, it reaffirms Katara’s dedication to elevating Arab music and arts on the global stage, providing a space where tradition meets innovation.
