Dubai welcomed 2025 in grand fashion with its renowned fireworks and drone shows, drawing visitors from across the globe. Tourists marveled at the city’s dazzling celebrations, with many stating it was unlike anything they had experienced in their home countries.
Fireworks at the Burj Khalifa
Among the international visitors were Polish couple Małgosia and Remik, who arrived in Dubai just two days before New Year’s Eve. The duo secured a prime spot at a sushi restaurant in Dubai Mall to witness the iconic Burj Khalifa fireworks up close.
“The Burj Khalifa fireworks are famous throughout the world,” said Małgosia. “We wanted to spend December 31 near the world’s tallest tower and see the fireworks firsthand.”
The couple, on a short getaway from Poland, plans to return home on January 2 to their young children, aged five and seven, who are staying with their grandparents. “We just came for a little sun and good weather,” added Remik.
A First-Time Experience for Some
Seventeen-year-old Brazilian tourist Pietra Orsi visited Dubai with her family to experience the city’s famous New Year’s celebrations for the first time. She explained that fireworks are uncommon back home in Brazil, partly due to concerns about noise disrupting wildlife.
“To be honest, it was very last minute,” Pietra said of their decision to travel. “We wanted to celebrate New Year’s in Dubai, and it’s been incredible. I’m not used to seeing fireworks, especially on this scale with displays at multiple locations.”
Despite cherishing her traditional Brazilian New Year’s celebrations with family, good food, and music, Pietra admitted the experience in Dubai was unparalleled. “I would definitely spend New Year’s on a yacht again,” she added.
Blending Cultures and Traditions
For Brazilian tourist Teresa Gomiero, Dubai has been her go-to holiday destination for eight years, allowing her to spend time with her daughter, Elisabete, who lives in the UAE. This year, the duo celebrated New Year’s Eve on a yacht for the first time.
However, Teresa and Elisabete ensured their Brazilian traditions were not forgotten. They wore white to symbolize peace and followed a unique custom of keeping dried grape or pomegranate seeds in their wallets for prosperity.
“We dry the seeds and keep them in our wallets to ensure we don’t lose money throughout the year,” Elisabete explained, adding that they plan to continue the practice while enjoying the UAE’s vibrant celebrations.
Dubai’s New Year’s spectacle remains a top attraction, blending modern extravagance with diverse cultural traditions, making it a unique destination for holidaymakers worldwide.
