The United Arab Emirates’ President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has accepted an invitation from the United States to join the newly formed Board of Peace, the state news agency WAM reported on Wednesday.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the UAE’s decision underscores the importance of fully implementing US President Donald J. Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza. He described the plan as essential to securing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the UAE’s confidence in Trump’s leadership and commitment to global peace, citing the historic Abraham Accords as evidence of shared diplomatic objectives. He added that the UAE is ready to play an active role on the board, supporting efforts to enhance cooperation, stability, and prosperity in conflict-affected regions.
The Board of Peace, proposed by Trump and formally launched in early 2026, is designed to promote stability, restore effective governance, and secure lasting peace in areas affected by conflict. While its immediate focus is on the Gaza Strip, the board’s broader mandate includes planning and reconstruction initiatives in other regions as well.
The initiative is structured to allow member states to contribute to board activities, while strategic leadership is anchored by the United States. To implement the board’s agenda under Trump’s chairmanship, a founding Executive Board has been established. Its members include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Jared Kushner, former British Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair, Steve Witkoff, Marc Rowan, Ajay Banga, and Robert Gabriel.
Each board member is assigned a portfolio connected to Gaza’s stabilization and long-term recovery. These responsibilities cover governance capacity-building, regional engagement, reconstruction, investment promotion, large-scale financing, and capital mobilization. The structure is intended to coordinate international expertise in diplomacy, development, infrastructure, and economic policy to support reconstruction and stability in Gaza.
The UAE’s participation reflects its ongoing diplomatic engagement in Middle Eastern peace efforts. The country has been a key actor in the Abraham Accords and other regional initiatives aimed at fostering stability and cooperation. Its involvement in the Board of Peace signals a continued commitment to multilateral approaches to conflict resolution and reconstruction in the region.
Officials said the UAE’s role on the board will involve close coordination with other member states and active participation in projects aimed at advancing governance, economic development, and humanitarian assistance in Gaza. Observers noted that the board represents a significant platform for the UAE to reinforce its influence in regional peacebuilding efforts while aligning with broader US-led initiatives.
