Today, the Supreme Court reserved verdict about video leak controversy of Judge Arshad Malik and seeks recommendation from the attorney general. The SC received three petitions to probe the video controversy case that involved accountability of High Court Judge. Headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa, a three-member bench asked the attorney general to submit recommendations about the case after hearing all arguments. The CJP said, “ the Supreme Court does everything with objections and when we take a step back, we are asked to take notice”. He also concluded that we would soon decide a few important things while postponing the hearing until July 23.
Maryam Nawaz and other party leaders of PML-N of delivering his verdict under pressure have accused Judge Malik, who sentenced Nawaz Sharif last year in Al Azizia case. Maryam called a press conference and released some videos that proved her claim about judge Arshad Malik. However, Judge has denied all accusations being under pressure and made counter-allegations against Nawaz Sharif and PML-N for bribing and threating him.
Following the political and judicial crisis, Islamabad High Court removed Judge Arshad Malik from accountability court and Law Ministry stopped him to continue his service after the discussion with the apex court. The Chief Justice also said that accountability court judge was subjected to Lahore Court and the government has selected him on a commission. He also added that the authenticity of videos, revealed by Maryam Nawaz is a matter of judiciary and they have to see that how a private video of any individual can be recorded and then it came on the public.
