Saudi Peace Shield Defense Project

The Kingdom embarked on a pivotal security initiative Saudi Peace Shield Defense Project. This ambitious undertaking sought to bolster the capabilities of the Royal RSAF – Royal Saudi Air Force and the Royal Saudi Air Defense (RSAD) in safeguarding the nation’s airspace.

A Multifaceted Defense System

️ The project commenced with the acquisition of E-3 AWACS airborne early warning aircraft and AN/FPS-117 early warning radars, strategically deployed across the Kingdom and integrated into the C3 command and control system. Subsequently, AN/TPS-63 medium-range radars were added to enhance coverage.

️ In 1982, the F15C fighter jets joined the project, proving their prowess alongside the AWACS aircraft. During Operation King Fahd, these jets successfully intercepted and downed two Iranian aircraft and damaged a third within two years of their deployment.

Continuous Advancement

️ The project’s evolution extended to the development of command and control centers, progressing from C3 to C3I and C4I. Saab-2000 AWACS aircraft, National Guard radars, and the THAAD missile defense system were incorporated, further strengthening the Kingdom’s defense posture.
