Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — The Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, announced that Saudi Arabia has extended over $129 billion in aid to 169 countries worldwide since 1996. This substantial commitment reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to alleviating suffering and promoting stability globally.
Removing Unexploded Ordnance for a Safer Environment
Dr. Al Rabeeah emphasized that KSrelief actively engages in removing unexploded ordnance as part of its humanitarian efforts. By doing so, Saudi Arabia aims to improve the environment, protect civilians—especially women and children—build capabilities, ensure a safe environment, preserve public health, and mitigate the dangerous effects of explosives on individuals and society.
Middle East Green Initiative: Protecting Land and Nature
Highlighting the Middle East Green Initiative, valued at $2.5 billion, Dr. Al Rabeeah underscored its goal to lead the Kingdom and the region in environmental protection. Addressing environmental challenges is crucial, and this initiative aims to safeguard land, nature, and ecosystems.
International Conference on Mine Action
Dr. Al Rabeeah made these statements during his participation in the third annual International Conference on Mine Action, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 30 and 31. The conference theme, “Mitigating the Environmental Impact of Landmines: Resource Mobilization for a Safe and Green Future,” brought together experts, policymakers, and organizations committed to mine clearance and environmental preservation.
KSrelief’s Global Humanitarian Projects
KSrelief has executed 2,925 humanitarian projects across 99 countries, with a total value of $6.824 billion. These projects span vital sectors such as food, education, health, shelter, nutrition, water, and environmental sanitation. Collaborating with 180 partners from international, regional, and local organizations, KSrelief continues to make a significant impact.
Saudi Mine Clearance Project in Yemen (MASAM)
Notably, the Saudi Mine Clearance Project in Yemen (MASAM) was launched in June 2018. As a humanitarian initiative, MASAM assists the Yemeni people by removing 443,452 planted explosives and clearing 56,636,614 cubic meters of land. Additionally, the project has trained 400 mine clearance specialists, enhancing local capabilities.
Cooperation with Azerbaijan and Iraq
KSrelief signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Azerbaijan National Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) to provide financial support for clearing Azerbaijani lands of mines. Furthermore, a grant was extended to Iraq in April to finance survey projects and the removal of cluster munitions and mines in several governorates.
Prosthetic Limbs Program in Yemen
In Yemen, KSrelief has established a prosthetic limbs program. This high-quality initiative manufactures and provides prosthetic devices for amputees, while also organizing rehabilitation programs. To date, 3,496,500 individuals have benefited from this essential service.
