Saudi Arabia Unveils New Oil and Gas Fields
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In a momentous announcement, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, revealed groundbreaking discoveries of oil and natural gas in two key regions: the Eastern Region and the vast Empty Quarter.
Unveiling the Fields
- Ladam Field (حقل اللدام):
- Located in the Eastern Region, the Ladam field is an unconventional oil reservoir. It boasts an impressive flow rate of 5,100 barrels per day of very light Arabian crude oil and approximately 4.9 million cubic feet of gas daily from the Ladam-2 well.
- Farouk Field (حقل الفروق):
- Another unconventional oil field in the Eastern Region, the Farouk field yields 4,557 barrels per day of very light Arabian crude oil and about 3.79 million cubic feet of gas daily from the Farouk-4 well.
- Mazaleej Field (حقل مزاليج):
- In the Eastern Region’s Mazaleej field, the Ainiza B/G reservoir was discovered. It produces 1,780 barrels per day of light Arabian crude oil and approximately 0.7 million cubic feet of gas daily from the Mazaleej-62 well.
- Jehak Field (حقل الجهق):
- Located in the Empty Quarter, the Jehak field holds significant natural gas reserves. It delivers 5.3 million cubic feet per day from the Arab-G reservoir and an additional 1.1 million cubic feet per day from the Arab-D reservoir in the Jehak-1 well.
- Katouf Field (حقل الكتوف):
- Also in the Empty Quarter, the Katouf field exhibits a robust gas flow rate of 7.6 million cubic feet per day, accompanied by approximately 40 barrels per day of condensates from the Katouf-1 well.
- Asikra Field (حقل عسيكرة):
- Notably, the Asikra field in the Empty Quarter houses the Hanifa reservoir (مكمن حنيفة). It contributes 4.9 million cubic feet per day of natural gas from the Asikra-6 well, alongside 0.6 million cubic feet per day from the Fadhili reservoir (مكمن الفاضلي). Additionally, about 100 barrels per day of condensates are extracted.
A Milestone for Saudi Arabia
These discoveries represent a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia’s energy sector. The nation’s relentless pursuit of expanding its oil and gas reserves underscores its commitment to sustainable development and resource utilization.
