Saudi Arabia has taken a major step in its preparations to host World Expo 2030 in Riyadh, officially submitting its registration dossier to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).
On Friday, Saudi Ambassador to France Fahd bin Mayouf Al-Ruwaili personally delivered the document to BIE Secretary General Dimitri Kerkentzes, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The submission marks the official start of the event’s planning and development phase.
Kerkentzes praised Saudi Arabia’s vision for Expo 2030, describing the dossier as a clear demonstration of the Kingdom’s commitment and extensive efforts to prepare for the global event. “It reflects the Kingdom’s dedication and the significant efforts it is exerting to prepare for this global event and closely cooperate with BIE to ensure its success,” he said.
Saudi Arabia won the bid to host World Expo 2030 in November 2023 after securing 119 out of 165 votes in a secret ballot, decisively beating South Korea and Italy.
The registration dossier outlines a comprehensive plan covering all organizational, operational, and logistical aspects of the event. It includes details on the Expo site’s master plan, scheduled operational dates, international participation requirements, and plans for the long-term legacy of the exhibition. Additionally, the submission covers the legal, regulatory, and financial measures necessary for the event’s execution.
The BIE and its member states will now review the document before its official adoption at the organization’s General Assembly. Once approved, Saudi Arabia will begin practical preparations, including sending out official invitations to countries and organizations through diplomatic channels.
With this milestone, the Kingdom moves closer to hosting one of the world’s largest international exhibitions, positioning Riyadh as a major global hub for innovation, culture, and economic exchange in 2030.
