Middle East industrial sector embraces physical AI and robotics for a new era

Middle East industrial sector embraces physical AI and robotics for a new era

The industrial landscape in the Middle East is undergoing a significant transformation as companies and governments increasingly adopt physical AI and robotics to boost efficiency, safety, and productivity. By now, AI is widely recognized, with adoption rates surpassing even the early days of the internet. The region is now moving beyond traditional automation toward autonomous machines capable of perceiving, understanding, and interacting with the physical world.

Experts say the next wave of industrial innovation will be shaped by a “simulation-first” approach, where products and processes are perfected digitally before reaching the factory floor. Rev Lebaredian, NVIDIA’s vice president of Omniverse and Simulation Technology, explained that “from breakthrough products to the factories they’re built in, everything manufactured will be born in a digital world. Simulation-first design breaks through the barriers of cost, risk, and speed, letting manufacturers iterate, test, and optimise long before breaking ground or cutting steel.”

In the Middle East, engineers are increasingly using high-fidelity digital twins to replicate entire facilities virtually. By the time robotic systems are installed in cities like Abu Dhabi, their operations have already been practised millions of times in simulations. This approach ensures that facilities operate efficiently from day one, reducing downtime and minimising redesign costs. Lebaredian added that these digital environments also allow robots and AI-powered industrial systems to be continuously trained and improved before deployment.

New physical AI reasoning models are giving autonomous machines “common sense,” allowing robots to adapt to real-world environments beyond their initial programming. A robot trained in a warehouse can now operate in a hospital or public space, identifying obstacles, empty pallets, misplaced items, or hazardous spills and taking corrective actions without human input. This versatility is opening up applications that were previously impractical, expanding the reach of robotics across sectors.

Vision language models (VLMs) are also set to play a central role in industrial operations from 2026. Deepu Talla, NVIDIA’s vice president of Robotics and Edge AI, said VLMs “will operate as the control tower for outside-in robotics, enabling robots to collaborate and communicate with their environments. Ceiling-mounted cameras provide real-time guidance, safety monitoring, and operational oversight, allowing operators to deploy fleets of robots with simple commands or sketches rather than complex coding.”

These systems are already being used on Middle Eastern factory floors, linking cameras and software to detect and correct issues immediately. The result is fewer accidents, faster changeovers, and more consistent performance across facilities, making autonomous operations a dependable component of daily industrial workflows.

The adoption of physical AI and robotics in the Middle East signals a broader industrial revolution, where digital simulation, adaptive machines, and intelligent oversight converge to reshape manufacturing and operations. By integrating AI into every stage of production, the region is positioning itself at the forefront of technological innovation for years to come.
