Islamabad will host Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Saturday for a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening strategic ties between the two nations, the Pakistani foreign ministry announced.
During his visit, King Abdullah is scheduled to meet with Pakistan’s president and prime minister to discuss the full spectrum of bilateral relations. The Pakistani foreign office stated that the visit will enhance the strategic trajectory of Pakistan–Jordan relations and support a broad-based partnership across political, economic, and cultural areas.
Jordan holds a special place in Pakistan’s diplomatic history, being the fifth country in the world to recognize Pakistan. Formal diplomatic ties between the two nations were established in August 1948. Over the decades, the countries have maintained a close relationship, participating together in international discussions, including deliberations on peace initiatives in Gaza alongside Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Indonesia, Turkiye, and the United Arab Emirates.
Economic ties between Pakistan and Jordan remain modest but growing. According to the Pakistani embassy in Amman, bilateral trade reached $46.58 million in 2023. The Gulf country also hosts a significant Pakistani community, with around 16,000 nationals residing there.
As part of the state visit, a special investiture ceremony will be held at the presidency in Islamabad, where King Abdullah will be awarded Pakistan’s highest civilian honor. The Pakistani foreign office said the recognition highlights the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Officials noted that the visit will not only reaffirm existing relations but also open avenues for broader collaboration, particularly in trade, investment, and cultural exchanges. Analysts suggest that the timing of the trip reflects a shared interest in enhancing regional stability and deepening diplomatic engagement amid a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.
In addition to formal meetings, King Abdullah’s visit is expected to feature discussions on strategic partnerships and initiatives to boost economic cooperation. Both countries have expressed commitment to maintaining regular high-level exchanges to sustain momentum in bilateral relations.
The visit of King Abdullah II is being described as a landmark event in Pakistan–Jordan relations, aimed at consolidating a longstanding friendship that spans more than seven decades. Pakistani officials emphasized that the two countries share a “brotherly bond” that continues to guide their diplomatic and strategic priorities in the region.
