London, UK – Sir Keir Starmer has pledged to establish a “government of service” following his historic election as the UK’s first Labour prime minister since 2010.
Addressing the nation from outside 10 Downing Street after Labour’s sweeping election triumph, Sir Keir vowed to restore public trust in politics and guide the country “to calmer waters.” He made a direct appeal to voters who did not support his party, promising to prioritize the nation and govern “unburdened by doctrine.”
A jubilant crowd of supporters, waving Union Jacks alongside the flags of Scotland and Wales, cheered Sir Keir into the iconic street. The new prime minister and his wife Victoria shared heartfelt embraces with old friends and colleagues who had gathered to celebrate the victory.
From the lectern, Sir Keir cautioned that despite Labour’s significant parliamentary majority of 174 seats, the task of “rebuilding” Britain would be a gradual process. “This will take a while,” he noted, emphasizing the extensive work ahead.
After a formal audience with the King at Buckingham Palace, Sir Keir officially succeeded Tory leader Rishi Sunak. He is expected to start appointing his new cabinet on Friday afternoon, with the first meeting scheduled for Saturday.
