Israel says its military has thwarted an incursion attempt by firing on Hezbollah fighters entering its territory. The Israeli prime minister has called it “a serious security incident.” The four fighters entered the Israeli border from Mount Doa in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The situation in the region has been tense since an alleged Israeli airstrike in Syria killed a Hezbollah operative.
Israel, which neither confirmed nor denied last Monday morning’s attack, But he warned Hezbollah to refrain from retaliating. Israel and Hezbollah are enemies and fought a month-long war in 2006 when Hezbollah killed eight Israeli soldiers and abducted two others. The fight killed 1,191 people, mostly civilians, in Lebanon, while 121 soldiers and 44 civilians were killed in Israel.
