According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Iran has initiated an attack by launching drones towards Israel, which is seen as a significant retaliatory measure. The IDF has reported that it may take several hours for the drones to reach Israel, covering a distance of 1,100 miles (1,800km). Israeli forces are currently on high alert and closely monitoring all potential targets.
– Over 50 Iranian drones have been launched towards Israel
– Set to take several hours before reaching Israeli airspace
– Drone activity sighted over Iraq
– Airspace of Iran, Jordan and Israel set to be shut
– Israeli military and air defenses on high alert
– First direct Iranian attack on Israeli territory
This action follows Iran’s pledge to retaliate after attributing an attack on its consulate in Syria on April 1 to Israel, resulting in the deaths of several Iranian commanders. Just before reports of the drone launch, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that Israel’s defensive systems were deployed and prepared for any eventuality, both defensively and offensively. Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s strength and readiness, expressing appreciation for the support of the United States, Britain, France, and other nations standing alongside Israel during this period of tension.
