Supermodel sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid have pledged $1 million (£785,000) to support humanitarian efforts in Palestine. The funds will be equally distributed among four organizations that focus on assisting children and families affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Bella and Gigi, whose father is Palestinian property tycoon Mohamed Anwar Hadid, have been outspoken in their support for the Palestinian people. In a heartfelt Instagram post last May, Bella expressed her devastation at the loss of lives and criticized the lack of empathy from global government systems.
The recent donation follows a series of photographs featuring Bella at the Cannes Film Festival, where she wore a red and white dress made of traditional Arabic cloth associated with Palestinian culture. She described it as a beautiful representation of Palestinian history, love, resilience, and the art of historic Palestinian embroidery.
Gigi, too, shared her thoughts on Instagram after Hamas attacked Israel in October. She expressed deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle under occupation, emphasizing that her hopes and dreams for Palestinians do not include harm to any Jewish person.
The four relief agencies benefiting from the sisters’ generosity are Heal Palestine, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, World Central Kitchen, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. These organizations provide essential aid, including food, medical programs, assistance to displaced families, and psychological services during the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
US President Joe Biden recently called for an end to the war in Gaza, urging Hamas to accept a new Israeli proposal. The conflict began when Hamas gunmen launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, resulting in casualties and hostages. According to the Hamas-run health ministry, over 36,000 people have lost their lives in Gaza since the conflict’s inception.
