The French Rafale, one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets, left for India on Tuesday and will join Indian Air Force on Wednesday.
There are reports that India is also finalizing a deal to buy hammer missiles for these fighter jets. The Rafale fighter jets left France’s Mariana Airport for India. The fighter jets will cover a distance of about 7,000 km and will be refueled by air tankers en route.
These warplanes are being flown to India by Indian Air Force pilots. The Dassault Company has provided complete training to Indian Air Force pilots and engineers on the aircraft and its missiles and bombs. The warplanes could have reached India in a day, but before being brought here, they were landed at the French airport near Abu Dhabi, from where they are arriving at Ambala airport in the Indian state of Haryana on Wednesday morning.
The official launch of the warships is expected to take place sometime next month. According to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Paris, France has handed over the fighter jets to the Indian Air Force within the stipulated time. Under the agreement, India has been given ten Rafale aircraft in the first batch. Five of them are due to arrive in India on Wednesday and the other five will remain in France to train Indian Air Force pilots.
