Dubai’s Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) has funded Umrah pilgrimages for 80 low-income individuals as part of its ongoing charitable and humanitarian work. The initiative, called “Umrah of a Lifetime,” received approximately Dh100,000 from AMAF, which was directed to the Dar Al Ber Society, an organization that has facilitated similar programs in recent years.
The sponsored Umrah journey provides a seven-day pilgrimage, allowing participants to perform the religious rites and visit holy sites in Makkah and Madinah. This initiative is specifically aimed at those with limited incomes who have not previously had the opportunity to undertake Umrah. Many beneficiaries had expressed a long-standing wish to perform this pilgrimage, which is a significant religious journey for Muslims, second in importance only to the Hajj.
In addition to covering travel expenses, the Dar Al Ber Society provided full accommodations for the participants in Makkah and Madinah, including hotel stays. The organization also managed the costs associated with visa issuance to facilitate their visit to Saudi Arabia.
Ahmad Al Falasi, Director of the Charitable Activities Department at Dar Al Ber Society, praised the collaboration with Dubai Awqaf, emphasizing the shared commitment to supporting those in need. “This initiative reflects our dedication to humanitarian work and aligns with the goals of AMAF to ensure support for low-income members of our community, particularly in fulfilling religious aspirations,” he noted.
For AMAF, the Umrah sponsorship is part of a broader mission to make meaningful differences in the lives of low-income families in Dubai. The foundation has a history of supporting projects that promote social welfare, including financial assistance, health care, education, and religious fulfillment. Initiatives such as “Umrah of a Lifetime” provide direct assistance while also fostering a sense of spiritual upliftment for beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries, some of whom have awaited this opportunity for many years, expressed gratitude for the sponsorship. Many shared that they never thought they would have the financial means to undertake the pilgrimage, and this support made a profound impact.
The program aligns with Dubai Awqaf’s vision of extending charitable support and enhancing the welfare of marginalized groups in society. Both AMAF and Dar Al Ber Society remain committed to similar initiatives in the future, aiming to provide more people with opportunities for religious observance and other forms of essential aid.
By financing this program, AMAF continues to uphold its mission to support the community’s well-being, making religious experiences accessible to those who might otherwise be unable to afford them. The “Umrah of a Lifetime” initiative is seen as a step towards promoting inclusivity and compassion within Dubai’s diverse society.
