Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has launched a fresh lineup of semiconductors geared towards AI-powered business laptops and desktops. This move signals AMD’s ambition to capture a larger portion of the lucrative “AI PC” market. According to a press release from AMD, these chips are slated to be integrated into HP and Lenovo platforms, with availability expected to commence in the second quarter of 2024. AI-capable PCs possess the capability to execute extensive language models and applications driven by AI directly on the device, bypassing the need for cloud-based processing.
AMD highlighted that its newest Ryzen PRO 8040 Series is tailored for “business laptops and mobile workstations,” whereas the AMD Ryzen PRO 8000 Series serves as a desktop processor aimed at business users. The company’s shares experienced a rise of over 2% during early trading. Analysts speculate that the introduction of AI-capable PCs could potentially drive a resurgence in the PC market, as consumers seek to enhance their systems with these advanced capabilities. The emergence of generative AI technology has sparked considerable demand for sophisticated semiconductors capable of supporting the development and execution of intricate AI applications.
