Air Arabia, the Middle East and North Africa’s largest low-cost airline, has announced it will resume direct flights between Sharjah and Damascus from July 10, 2025. The move marks a significant step in reconnecting the UAE and Syria after years of suspended air travel on the route.
According to a report from the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the airline will operate two daily flights between Sharjah International Airport and Damascus International Airport. The new schedule is expected to cater to both business and leisure travellers, while also serving the sizeable Syrian diaspora living in the UAE and neighbouring Gulf countries.
In a statement, Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, said the resumption of services reflects the airline’s ongoing commitment to strengthening regional connectivity. “We are pleased to resume flights between Sharjah and Damascus after many years, reaffirming our ongoing commitment to enhancing regional air connectivity,” he said.
Al Ali highlighted the broader implications of the move, noting its potential to boost travel, tourism, and economic ties between the two nations. “This route holds particular significance in serving the Syrian diaspora in the region and meeting the growing travel demand between the UAE and Syria. By introducing a double daily service, we aim to offer greater convenience and flexibility for both business and leisure travellers, while also supporting the growth of trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two nations,” he added.
The Sharjah-Damascus route had been suspended for several years due to regional instability and airspace restrictions. Its resumption comes amid wider regional efforts to normalise relations with Syria and reintegrate the country into the broader Arab diplomatic and economic landscape.
The reintroduction of this route also aligns with Air Arabia’s expansion strategy, which focuses on increasing affordable travel options across underserved and previously suspended destinations.
Air Arabia, headquartered in Sharjah, operates a growing network of destinations across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and North Africa. With the new Sharjah-Damascus service, the carrier adds another significant link to its route map, catering to a demand that has steadily risen with regional stabilisation and economic recovery.
Tickets for the Sharjah-Damascus flights are now available for booking on Air Arabia’s website and through its sales channels.
