Modon Holding, the Abu Dhabi-based investment firm, has announced the acquisition of Arena Events Group, a leading provider of temporary infrastructure and event solutions, in a strategic move to expand its presence in the global events sector.
The deal includes the purchase of Theta Bidco, Arena’s parent company, and is expected to significantly strengthen Modon’s capabilities in delivering large-scale event services for high-profile international gatherings.
Expanding Global Reach
Arena Events Group operates in over 10 countries, including the US, UK, and Saudi Arabia, and has been a key player in some of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. The company has provided infrastructure for the 2024 Paris Olympics, multiple Formula 1 Grand Prix races, and Wimbledon, among others.
Arena is also known for its expertise in modular structures, having built a stadium for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in New York. Additionally, the company maintains strong partnerships with major sports organizations, including the PGA of America and LIV Golf, supplying critical infrastructure for golf tournaments worldwide.
A Strategic Move for Modon
The acquisition aligns with Modon’s international growth strategy, marking a significant step in expanding its footprint in global event management and infrastructure services.
“Arena’s leadership in the events sector, with a focus on large-scale infrastructure and services, positions Modon for continued growth and diversification in global markets,” said Jassem Mohammed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, chairman of Modon Holding, in a statement.
Echoing this sentiment, Modon CEO Bill O’Regan emphasized that Arena’s experience and extensive client base will help Modon break into new markets. “Arena brings a wealth of experience and a strong global client base that will enable us to expand into North America, where the company has a significant presence,” O’Regan noted.
Strengthening Presence in North America
The acquisition represents Modon’s first major entry into the North American market, where Arena has its largest revenue base and a workforce of over 1,000 employees. Arena has been instrumental in providing event infrastructure for major US-based events, including Formula 1 races in Miami and Austin and a range of sports and entertainment events.
The global live events sector is experiencing rapid growth, with rising demand for high-quality infrastructure and hospitality services. The Modon-Arena partnership is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend, particularly as live event attendance continues to surge worldwide.
Modon’s Expanding Portfolio
This acquisition follows Modon’s recent purchase of La Zagaleta, the owner of Spain’s ultra-luxurious La Zagaleta residential estate in Costa del Sol, in December 2024. The move reinforces Modon’s commitment to international expansion, further solidifying its presence in Europe’s competitive luxury real estate market.
Meanwhile, Syed Basar Shueb, CEO of International Holding Company (IHC)—Arena’s parent company for the past three years—expressed confidence in Modon’s ability to enhance the brand’s global capabilities.
“Modon is the ideal partner to take Arena’s expertise to the next level, particularly in the growing temporary infrastructure and event solutions market,” Shueb stated.
The acquisition remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions but is expected to be finalized by Q1 2025.
