“A recent dialogue between a journalist and Saudi Minister Adel Al-Jubeir highlighted a crucial aspect of Saudi Arabia’s strategic vision for energy independence and economic growth. The journalist queried, ‘If Saudi Arabia is intent on civilian nuclear energy, why the need for an indigenous uranium enrichment program, unlike approaches like the UAE’s?’
Minister Al-Jubeir responded with insightful clarity, ‘Saudi Arabia is blessed with substantial uranium reserves. Our goal is to harness these resources economically. We aim to develop the entire value chain domestically, ensuring jobs and industries thrive within our borders.’
He emphasized, ‘With our resources, we conform to international standards, actively engaging with the International Atomic Energy Agency to meet all requirements. These discussions are integral to our strategic planning.’
Further elaborating, Minister Al-Jubeir stated, ‘Saudi Arabia’s vast uranium resources are a national asset. We are committed to extracting value, fostering job creation, and developing enrichment-related industries domestically.!
He concluded, ‘Our vision extends to being a global energy exporter. This includes not just oil and gas, but also clean, renewable, and nuclear energy, thereby offering a comprehensive energy mix to the world.’
But what was truly remarkable was the Minister’s adept response to a challenging question. Although I couldn’t hear the question, its nature was clear from his answer, and as always, he responded with the utmost clarity and precision.
