Did you know that air pollution threatens the lives of 7 million people annually?
According to the 2023 IQ Air Report, here’s a list of the top 10 most polluted countries in the world:
1. Bangladesh: 79.9 micrograms/m3
2. Pakistan: 73.7 micrograms/m3
3. India: 54.4 micrograms/m3
4. Tajikistan: 49 micrograms/m3
5. Burkina Faso: 46.6 micrograms/m3
6. Iraq: 43.8 micrograms/m3
7. UAE: 43 micrograms/m3
8. Nepal: 42.4 micrograms/m3
9. Egypt: 42.4 micrograms/m3
10. Congo: 40.8 micrograms/m3
Air quality is measured by determining the concentration level of airborne pollutant particles that cause lung damage.
The pollutant particle concentration levels in the mentioned countries are significantly higher than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) guideline of 20 micrograms/m3.
These high pollution levels pose a significant risk to human health, increasing the risk of respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.
Primary sources of pollution in these countries:
🔸️ Dust storms
🔸️ Greenhouse gas emissions from factories and vehicles
🔸️ Burning of fossil fuels
