U.S. Urges Diplomacy as Israel Intensifies Strikes on Hezbollah

U.S. Urges Diplomacy as Israel Intensifies Strikes on Hezbollah

The White House has cautioned that Israel’s ongoing military operations against Hezbollah and Iran may not be the best strategy to ensure long-term security in the country’s northern regions. Speaking on Sunday, U.S. National Security spokesperson John Kirby emphasized that an all-out war with Hezbollah or Iran would not create the conditions for displaced Israelis to safely return to their homes.

“An all-out war with Hezbollah, certainly with Iran, is not the way to do that. If you want to get those folks back home safely and sustainably, we believe that a diplomatic path is the right course,” Kirby told CNN.

Israel has escalated its strikes in Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah after reportedly killing the group’s leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. These attacks are part of Israel’s broader objective to neutralize Hezbollah’s rocket fire, which has led to the displacement of thousands of Israelis from northern areas. Despite Israel’s military push, the U.S. is advocating for diplomacy as the most viable option for restoring safety and stability to the region.

The situation remains highly volatile, with Hezbollah potentially facing a leadership vacuum after the death of Nasrallah. Kirby mentioned that the U.S. is closely monitoring the group’s response and is in active discussions with Israeli officials regarding potential next steps.

Lebanon continues to suffer heavily from the conflict. According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, more than 1,000 Lebanese have been killed and 6,000 wounded over the past two weeks. The Lebanese government reported that around one million people—roughly a fifth of the country’s population—have been displaced by the violence.

The international community remains concerned about the growing humanitarian crisis, as both Israel and Hezbollah show no signs of de-escalating. While Israel’s strikes have intensified, Hezbollah’s capacity for retaliation has not yet been fully diminished, raising fears of further escalation in the coming days.

The United States has reiterated its commitment to working with Israel to achieve long-term security while avoiding a full-scale war. However, as the conflict continues, the prospect of a peaceful resolution appears increasingly uncertain.
