HE Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, Qatar’s Minister of Labour, took part in the 101st session of the Governing Body of the Arab Labour Organization (ALO), which was held in Cairo, Egypt, from October 3-4. The session brought together representatives from governments, employers, and workers across Arab nations, in line with the ALO’s principle of tripartite representation.

The Governing Body addressed a range of key issues during the session, issuing several important resolutions and recommendations. These included discussions on the implementation of decisions from the 100th session of the Governing Body and the 50th ordinary session of the Arab Labour Conference. The council also reviewed a report on the conditions of workers and the Palestinian population in the occupied Arab territories, in addition to considering the outcomes of the Economic and Social Council’s work and the results of the 56th session of the Higher Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action.

HE Dr. Al Marri currently presides as Chairman of the ALO’s Board of Directors, a position Qatar has held since October 2023 following the country’s election to the role. His tenure as chairman will continue until the end of September 2024.

The Arab Labour Organization, founded in 1965, aims to strengthen labor cooperation and relations among Arab countries. It plays a key role in addressing labor-related issues in the region, promoting social and economic development, and enhancing coordination between Arab governments, employers, and workers.

Dr. Al Marri’s leadership and Qatar’s active participation in the ALO highlight the nation’s commitment to advancing labor standards and fostering collaboration within the Arab world. The discussions and resolutions from this session are expected to shape the region’s approach to labor rights, employment policies, and socio-economic development in the coming months.
