Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded a major tender worth more than Dh100.8 million for the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of glass-reinforced epoxy (GRE) water pipelines, a move aimed at protecting and diverting existing services across multiple locations in the emirate.
The project encompasses a comprehensive scope of work, including surveying, excavation, civil works, reinstatement, and full integration with Dubai’s existing water transmission network. The works will be carried out across 20 strategic sites over a 24-month period, forming part of DEWA’s ongoing investments to strengthen and expand critical utility infrastructure.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said, “This award aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to build world-class infrastructure that meets the growing needs of Dubai’s ambitious development plans. Investing in such protective measures is essential for the resilience of our networks and ensures we continue to provide a reliable, efficient and sustainable supply of electricity and water to all sectors of the emirate.”
The project is designed to safeguard and future-proof Dubai’s water networks, ensuring uninterrupted water flow while supporting new developments and ongoing infrastructure works. GRE pipelines were chosen for their high strength, corrosion resistance, and durability, qualities that make them suitable for demanding underground environments and extend the lifecycle of critical assets.
DEWA said the initiative reflects its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of reliability, safety, and operational efficiency across its water transmission and distribution systems. The works will also help accommodate the emirate’s rapid urban growth and support long-term sustainable development goals.
By upgrading its water network, DEWA aims to enhance resilience against potential service disruptions while ensuring that Dubai continues to meet the needs of residents, businesses, and large-scale infrastructure projects. The pipelines will be integrated into the city’s broader water management system, strengthening the capacity of critical infrastructure to handle increasing demand.
The GRE pipeline project is part of DEWA’s wider strategy to invest in modern technologies and advanced materials, ensuring that the emirate’s water and electricity networks remain robust, efficient, and sustainable in the long term.
