Its generally observed mega-events like sports, exhibitions, summits and big events are sponsored by manufacturers of unhealthy products like cigarettes, alcohol, junk foods, etc which include high calories stuff like burgers, soft drinks, etc. The question arises is it healthy to promote this stuff in healthy events?Â
Big events like FIFA world-cup, cricket matches, Olympics, international circuits for car racing and other international or local community sports are normally sponsored by many well-known and big brands they include soft drinks manufacturer, junk foods, ice creams, etc and moreover different types of beverages which include alcohol, cigarettes, and other entertainment stuff.Â
Open societies do promote such products and they have good sell of it in their regions but question is, is it right to promote them when there is any event which is promoting health? When it is written on the packs that consuming such products is not good for health…
In my personal opinion, such events should not promote advertisement of unhealthy consumables because ads incite the need to have such products and it’s human psychology that if a person is fully absorbed into that particular event, he or she would feel an urge to buy that product, and this is how healthy event is directing crowds towards unhealthy activities.Â
Advertising products which are acceptable by different cultures and group of people is okay and since there is a need in many societies but culture should also be followed that if let’s suppose an alcohol manufacturer is a big sponsor of any event which is happening in Muslim country so it’s promoting consumption of alcohol among the viewers which is in contradiction of values of the society whereas if this event is happening western countries, it is completely acceptable.Â
Same way most followers of sports are from the youth or young people who have this tendency to get addicted to such products which are absolutely not recommended for them.   Â
That’s okay to promote such products where the event is absolutely related to entertainment for example concerts, mega award shows, or other entertainment industry shows. Let’s suppose advertisement of junk or fast food is okay in cinemas, shopping malls or many other tourist spots and similarly advertisement of alcohol and many other related products are okay where nightlife and clubbing is acceptable in the society and they have such events as well.
