Cannabis: Which Diseases Can Be Treated using it?

Cannabis (also widely known as Marijuana) is a special kind of drug used for treating certain medical conditions as well as for recreational purposes. The dried flowers of Cannabis sativa are from where the products are made. It is up to the state government whether they permit the use of cannabis for medical treatment or not. It is advisable to check the state laws before making any purchase. It is vital to note that not every health ailment is advised to be treated with cannabis. The FDA has regulated a few rare diseases that can be treated with medical cannabis.

Cannabis: Which Diseases Can Be Treated using it?

The D.E.A (Drug Enforcement Administration) considers cannabis as a Schedule 1 drug. These drugs are not legally accepted for treatment and can be misused. Even doctors are advised to refrain from prescribing such drugs. Due to these reasons, there has not been enough research on cannabis but still, certain small-scale researches have shown a glimmer of hope.

As we said, cannabis is legalized for certain rare health ailments. . It can be consumed in different forms. Some people prefer to smoke it and inhale it while some feel discomfort in smoking and therefore opt for chewing tablets. You can even mix it with food and eat it if you feel uncomfortable in other forms.

If Cannabis is not consumed in an appropriate amount, it can lead to harmful effects. Studies have shown that overdose can cause impairment in judgmenting ability among patients. Hence, it is always advised not to drive after consuming it. Consumption of Cannabis more frequently can cause a negative impact on the immune system as well. Hence, you need to consult your doctor about the dosage and only consume it if it is extremely necessary.

That being said, let us also look at the health benefits of cannabis:

  • Marinol and Cesamet are widely used in controlling vomiting sensations that are caused by chemotherapeutic treatments. As the drug is still a schedule 1 drug, it is not legalized completely. However, research on a large scale is ongoing and within a few years, results can be expected.
  • Certain conditions such as HIV can cause nerve pain. This nerve pain can be effectively reduced by the consumption of cannabis. Apart from nerve pain, symptoms of muscle spasms can be treated with the help of cannabis extract spray.
  • CBD is present in Cannabis. Certain studies have shown that CBD helps in reducing inflammation in the body. If a person is suffering from conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn’s disease, this can prove to be beneficial to fight against these.
  • Dementia is a condition that impacts a person’s normal day-to-day activities. It can cause memory loss or even a behaviour change. Some small-scale research has shown that consuming cannabis can reduce aggression as well as anxiety in a person.

Apart from the above-mentioned conditions, researches have shown cannabis to be impactful in conditions such as Cancer, Epilepsy, Glaucoma, Seizures etc. However, any step must be taken with the proper guidance of an expert. Also, CBD has a great role in making your skin look better.
