The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) and the Doha Film Institute (DFI) have officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration between academia and the media industry. This partnership aims to foster cooperation in areas such as training, education, program development, and community outreach, particularly benefiting students in UDST’s Bachelor of Science in Digital Communication and Media Production (DCMP) program.
The MoU was signed by UDST President Dr. Salem Al Naemi and DFI CEO Fatma Hassan Al Remaihi, establishing a comprehensive framework for cooperation. This collaboration supports UDST’s mission to provide students with applied learning opportunities and real-world industry exposure, crucial for their professional development.
Dr. Al Naemi expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the importance of collaborating with DFI, an institution renowned for fostering local culture and media production with international standards. “We are proud to collaborate with DFI, an esteemed institution that not only fosters local culture and media production but also operates with international standards and a global impact. Enhancing this program with DFI’s resources and expertise will enrich the curriculum and prepare our graduates for successful careers,” he said.
He also highlighted that UDST recently introduced an Arabic-English track for its DCMP bachelor’s program, further supporting Qatar’s dynamic media industry. The integration of DFI’s resources and expertise is expected to enrich the curriculum and better prepare students for careers in media.
Fatma Hassan Al Remaihi, CEO of DFI, shared her excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Today marks a vital partnership between academia and creativity. The collaboration between UDST and DFI epitomizes the power of synergy, blending the art of storytelling with diverse media forms. Together, we embark on a journey to inspire, educate, and innovate, paving the way for students equipped with practical knowledge to make meaningful contributions to our community and economic progress.”
The partnership will also benefit UDST students and faculty through joint events such as speaker sessions and workshops. Additionally, both institutions have committed to working together on community outreach activities, aiming to foster a deeper connection with the local community.
This collaboration represents a significant step forward in bridging the gap between academia and the media industry in Qatar. By combining their resources and expertise, UDST and DFI are poised to nurture local talent and provide aspiring filmmakers and media professionals with innovative educational opportunities, ultimately contributing to the growth of Qatar’s media landscape.
