Dubai, July 17, 2024 — The daughter of Dubai’s ruler, Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has seemingly announced her divorce on social media. In a post from her verified Instagram account, Sheikha Mahra declared the end of her year-long marriage to industrialist Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum. The couple had welcomed their first child just two months ago.
The post, which begins with “Dear Husband,” concludes with the phrase “I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you,” seemingly invoking the Islamic practice known as triple talaq. While this practice has been banned in many countries, it allows husbands to swiftly divorce their wives by saying “I divorce you” three times. Sheikha Mahra’s Instagram account has also removed all images of her husband, and Sheikh Mana’s account no longer features pictures of his wife.
The lavish wedding of Sheikha Mahra and Sheikh Mana took place in April 2023, capturing public attention. However, there has been no official statement from either party regarding the divorce. Some Instagram users have speculated that Sheikha Mahra’s account might have been hacked, but there is no official confirmation of this.
As of now, the post declaring her divorce remains one day old, and officials in Dubai have yet to provide clarity on the matter.
