Abu Dhabi will host the Middle East debut of XPANSE, an innovative science and technology symposium, from November 20 to 22 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Set to draw an audience of over 2,500 professionals, the event promises an immersive experience with presentations by Nobel laureates, globally renowned science and tech leaders, and innovators who will share pioneering ideas across a range of fields.
The event, described as a fusion of science, technology, and art, will include a series of eight-minute presentations by world-renowned experts, aiming to make complex scientific concepts accessible to the general public. Dr. Zina Cinker, Chief Creator of XPANSE, emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between science and society, stating, “Science belongs to humanity, not only to scientists.” She explained that each presentation is crafted with the support of a creative agency, allowing scientists to present their ideas through visually engaging formats that resonate with the broader audience.
Key figures scheduled to speak include Nobel Laureate Dr. Steven Chu, former U.S. Secretary of Energy; Dr. Anton Zeilinger, Nobel-winning physicist known for his work in quantum physics; and Sir Martin Sorrell, founder of WPP and CEO of S4 Capital. These prominent figures, alongside other thought leaders, will address forward-looking topics such as 6G technology, Industry 5.0, bio-inspired artificial intelligence, advancements in materials science, genomics, brain-machine interfaces, and precision medicine.
The event is hosted by ADQ, an Abu Dhabi-based investment and holding company, and is held in partnership with the international think tank MATTER, led by Dr. Cinker, as well as the Technology Innovation Institute (TII). According to Khalifa Al Qubaisi, Chief Commercial Officer of ADNEC, the symposium aims to catalyze new business opportunities, particularly through the inclusion of startup pitch sessions where emerging companies can present their ideas and network with potential investors and industry leaders.
The goal of XPANSE is to make science and technology relatable to a wider audience by integrating artistic elements into the symposium’s format. This approach, according to Dr. Cinker, is central to the XPANSE vision of engaging the public in the scientific process. “We sit down with the scientists, allow them to tell us the story they’re going to share, and then craft it into an artistic representation of their ideas,” she explained.
With its innovative format and focus on accessibility, XPANSE is expected to provide attendees with an unprecedented opportunity to experience cutting-edge scientific ideas in a way that transcends traditional conferences. This unique blend of art, science, and technology seeks to inspire new ways of thinking and spark collaborations that could drive future advancements in global technology and research.
The event’s debut in the Middle East highlights Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a hub for technological innovation and scientific exploration, attracting leading minds in the field and solidifying the region’s commitment to advancing knowledge and industry.
